Who buys hair in Portugal

The Portuguese market is small and loosely organised. Most of the hair sold in the country is imported, largely from Asia, and people who want to sell their own rarely find a local buyer. That is why so much hair is sold cheaply to a salon that buys now and then — or thrown away when it had real value.

If you live here and do not speak Portuguese, that problem doubles: the few listings that exist are in Portuguese, and it is hard to tell a registered company from someone with a phone number.

Why European hair is worth more

Hair that has never been coloured or bleached keeps its cuticle intact. It lasts longer, reflects light better and behaves like your own hair once it is fitted. Since few people in Europe grow their hair past 45 cm without touching it with chemicals, this kind of hair is rare — and rare is what sets the price.

What you can expect to receive

The figure depends on four things: length, natural colour, the thickness of the ponytail and the condition of the fibre. Short, coloured hair is worth a few tens of euros. Long, naturally fair hair that has never been treated can be worth several hundred. We do not publish a fixed table because it would be false — use the estimate and we confirm it in person.

How the collection works

It depends where you live. In the Lisbon area we agree a day and a time and come to your home, usually within 48 hours. In Porto, Braga, Coimbra and Leiria we travel by appointment, on set days. If you change your mind

You can say no until the very last second. Plenty of people ask for a valuation just to know the number, and decide months later — or never. We do not push, and we do not ring you back.
